Dominican Republic – Coronavirus Covid-19: Bulletin #85/11 June 2020

According to Coronavirus Bulletin #85 of the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 22,008 confirmed cases, 571 new confirmed cases from 105,016 PCR diagnostic tests. The tally of deaths is 568, including 7 new deaths, 5 of these in Greater Santo Domingo. 2,835 patients are hospitalized. Of these, 114 patients are in intensive care units. The number of coronavirus-related deaths continues stable at an average 5.9 over the past 14 days. The fatality rate continues to decline and as of Bulletin #85 is at 2.58%.

The average per day of PCR diagnostic tests for the past 14 days is now 2,010, primarily due to the difficulties in sourcing the inputs needed for the tests. The numbers of diagnostic tests carried out over the past 14 days [the difference between the PCR tests reported in the past bulletin] are: 2,516 (Bulletin #85), 2,465 (Bulletin #84), 1,935 (Bulletin #83), 1,060 (Bulletin #82), 2,529 (Bulletin #81), 2,351 (Bulletin #80), 2,079 (Bulletin #79), 2,085 (Bulletin #78), 1,771 (Bulletin #77), 1,647 (Bulletin #76), 1,194 (Bulletin #75), 1,797 (Bulletin #74), 2,275 (Bulletin # 73) 2,242 (Bulletin #72), 3,809 (Bulletin #71), 2,149 (Bulletin #70), 1,364 (Bulletin #69).

The statistical reports do not include rapid response blood antibody tests or patients diagnosed with tomography or other means. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.

As of Thursday, 11 June 2020 at 4pm, the most confirmed cases continue to be reported in urban areas. Greater Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo province and the National District) has 53.3% of the 22,008 total confirmed cases. Santiago, San Cristobal, La Vega, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), Espaillat, La Romana, La Altagracia (Higuey, Verón, Punta Cana), Puerto Plata, Azua, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), Barahona, Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí) and Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo) are provinces that have 200 or more cases.

The most new cases or recently allocated cases are reported for the 10 June deadline are: Santo Domingo Province (231), National District (183), La Vega (25), San Cristóbal (22), Pedernales (14), Santiago (11), La Altagracia (11), La Romana (9), Monseñor Nouel (7), Azua (7), María Trinidad Sanchez (7), Espaillat (7), Elías Piña (7), Barahona (5), Duarte (4), San Pedro de Macorís (4), Samaná (6), Peravia (4), Puerto Plata (3) and Baoruco (2). The Ministry of Public Health reports one or no confirmed cases in 12 of 31 provinces and the National District.

In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is ranked 10th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Peru, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Argentina.
