7.5 million Dominicans have registered to vote. Another 600,000 registered to vote abroad, yet Covid-19 delayed the organization of the elections abroad, and the numbers of expat votes are expected to be much less than in 2016.
Dominicans will be at the polls on Sunday, 5 July 2020 to elect their next President and Vice President, 32 senators, 190 National Congress deputies and 20 representatives of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen).
This is the first time Dominicans will be receiving three ballots: one for the President and Vice President; another for the senator of the National District or province; another for the deputy of their district. Most people are aware of who they will vote for at the presidential and senate level, but to the hundreds of thousands are still unsure on the deputy level. This is the first time a deputy can be elected separate from the senator. This means you can choose a senator from one party and a deputy from another.
The vote is from 7am to 5pm, with half an hour extra for voters still in the polling place after 5pm. Seniors are being given priority on the voting lines.
264 elective posts need to be covered. There are 1,800 aspirants to these posts. 1,058 men are running, 742 women (41%).
There are 16,001 voting stations located at 4,168 polling places nationwide. The JCE says it has installed 1,099 voting stations at 277 polling places abroad. To check if you are in the system: https://elecciones2020.do/Verificate
