
The newly named future tourism minister, David Collado announced he has asked Rafael “Papo” Blanco to be his honorary assistant. Blanco is a former president of the National Hotel & Restaurant Association (Asonahores). He was also the first president of the National Business Council (2015-2017) to come from the tourism sector.
He is a pioneer of the tourism industry, from the days when Italian groups first discovered Dominican beaches and Bayahibe-Dominicus. He was incidental in developing several ventures there that evolved to become Viva Wyndham Resorts. He also developed hotels in Samana, on the northeastern coast.
Collado tweeted: “Because of his great experience in the tourism sector, in coordination with President @luisabinader, I have asked Mr. Rafael “Papo” Blanco to be the Honorary Advisor to the Ministry of Tourism, a position he has accepted. We are building a great team to rescue tourism,” Collado wrote a day after being announced as Abinader’s choice to lead the tourism sector.
