The Presidency network is streaming live the change of government.
The change of government ceremonies began at 9am and are scheduled to end at 2:30pm. First on the program was the swearing-in of the members of the National Assembly and the voting in of the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco (PRM-National District) and president of the Senate Eduardo Estrella (DxC-Santiago).
Heads of special foreign missions preceded the arrival of the elected President Luis Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña.
President Danilo Medina arrived shortly before 10:30am and received the military salutes and stood for the National Anthem. He then, contrary to tradition, attended the office of the president of the National Assembly Eduardo Estrella to receive the presidential sash from Estrella. President-elect Luis Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña were present in the office. Medina said it was an honor to deliver the sash for the President who was chosen by the Dominican people. He invited those present in the hall to applaud. He then left the National Assembly before the start of the actual swearing in ceremony of President Abinader and Vice President Peña.
The official swearing in would continue by 10:45am. At 12:15pm, the members of the Luis Abinader cabinet will be sworn in at the Presidential Palace.
At 1pm, a Te Deum short mass will be held at the Santo Domingo Cathedral and a wreath will be deposited at the Altar de la Patria in honor of the founding fathers of the Dominican Republic.
The official program concludes at 2:30pm with the lunch President Luis Abinader will offer to international and special guests at the Presidential Palace.
The dress code for the inaugural is white or light cream suits and the use of masks is mandatory.
The IT department of the Presidency announced that the social media networks used by the Presidency can now be accessed as “Gobierno de Danilo Medina” (@gobiernoDanilo).
