
47-year old Edward Sánchez González is the new director of the National Police. He is a native of San Francisco de Macorís, Duarte province. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
The new Brigadier General began his career in the Police in 1992. He is a graduate in law from the Universidad O&M in 2004.
He has been the rector of the Instituto de Estudios Superiores (Institute of Higher Studies), the Police college, and the School of Cadets of the Police.
In his police career, he has been coordinator or in charge of several major police criminal investigations all around the country. Among these is working as part of the Special Investigation Unit of the Attorney General Office – US Embassy.
He has an extensive background in studies abroad for defense, national security, public strategic public management, US FBI courses, with learning centers in Latin America, the United States, Central America and Spain.
In his presentation to the force as director-general on Monday, 17 August 2020, Edward Sanchez Gonzalez said he would focus on transparency, accountability and the regime of consequences. He would work for an improvement in the quality of police services.
He explained there will be a new focus on crime prevention, intelligence, investigation and administration of institutional procedures.
“We will strengthen the bond between the police and society, creating the necessary conditions so that social institutions, such as communities, churches and families can accompany us in the fulfillment of institutional objectives regarding the provision of citizen security for the sustainable development of the State,” he added.
He announced that more police officers would be sent to cover the areas where there is higher crime incidence. He said intelligence and investigations in internal affairs would be optimized for greater transparency in the action of police offers.
“We will optimize the criminal investigation process with the inclusion of the best technologies,” said the new police director.
