As director of the National History & Geography Museum’s helm, historian Vilma Benzo de Ferrer spearheaded probably the country’s greatest effort ever to get Dominicans to get to know their country. The bus tours took Dominicans to places off the beaten track. The participants were lectured to by historians, sociologists, and destination experts that would serve as tour guides on the busses. The tours were very popular and continued for years.
