Cash before talk at the UASD, UASD goes virtual

President Luis Abinader had an appointment to meet with the Rector Emma Polanco of the Santo Domingo Autonomous University (UASD). As reported, previously, he made sure a bank transfer for RD$234 million was sent to the state university. He had met earlier with the university authorities and was told the cash was needed so that no student would be left without enrollment in the new distance-learning semester. Polanco says the UASD has an enrollment of 215,000 students including 15,000 new students.

“I am very excited to be informed by the Administrative Minister (José Ignacio Paliza) that he has just deposited 234 million pesos,” said Rector Polanco with a smile, as reported in N Digital.

The cash would be used to upgrade the university’s virtual learning platform. As reported RD$124.8 million is for medical science labs, RD$26.5 million for basic science labs, RD$56.3 million for engineering and architecture labs and RD$7.9 million for business simulation labs. The funds will pay RD$10 million in licenses for 12,350 virtual classrooms.

“With President Abinader I think we will talk about a before and after UASD. We aspire to be not only the oldest university in the Americas, but also the most modern,” said Polanco.
