President Abinader meets Danilo Medina for consensus talks

President Luis Abinader met on Thursday, 3 September in the evening, with the Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), the largest opposition party in the country. Former President Danilo Medina, former Vice President Margarita Cedeño were present. It was Abinader’s third political visit that day, following previous meetings with former President Leonel Fernández of People’s Force (FP) and Country Alliance (AlPais) minority party, Guillermo Moreno.

President Luis Abinader was accompanied by Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ignacio Paliza, Presidency Minister Lisandro Macarrulla and Education Minister Roberto Furcal. The Abinader government sought consensus for crucial health, economic and social policies that are key to present and future development.

The PLD agreed to participate in future talks under the Economic and Social Council (CES), a national platform. The visits also served to secure consensus for non-partisan persons’ naming to the Central Electoral Board (JCE), the body in charge of elections and the civil registry in the Dominican Republic. The Senate is due to name the five new members within the next 60 days.
