
The present curfew ends on 25 September 2020. President Luis Abinader told journalists meeting for lunch at the Presidential Palace on Thursday, 10 September that the decision to extend the curfew has yet to be taken. But the President advanced he is in favor of keeping the curfew as is. He told the journalists that the government has not planned to reduce the curfew hours. He explained the indicators need to improve. He stressed the recovery of the tourism industry and the economy depend on improvements in the country’s Covid-19 statistics.
The President says government polls show that 81% of the Dominican people favor keeping the controls.
The Dominican Republic is under curfew from Monday to Friday from 7pm to 5am and Saturdays and Sundays from 5am to 5pm in Santo Domingo, the National District, Santiago, San Cristóbal, La Vega, Puerto Plata, Duarte, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, San Juan de la Maguana, La Altagracia, Azua, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez and María Trinidad Sánchez.
Provinces that get one more hour, from 8pm to 5am, are: Espaillat, Peravia, Barahona, Monte Plata, Valverde, Hermanas Mirabal, Monte Cristi, Samaná, Bahoruco, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Dabajón, Santiago Rodríguez, San José de Ocoa, Elías Piña, Independencia and Pedernales.
