The Ministry of Public Health’s Epidemiology Department Coronavirus Bulletin #182 reports 615 cases tested positive to PCR tests over the past 24 hours. Some 4,425 first PCR tests were processed for the 16 September deadline, up from 3,921 the previous day. The 14-day average for first PCR tests is at 3,871 PCR tests.

The 24-hour positivity rate for Bulletin #182 dropped to 13.90%, a significant decline from 18.31% in the previous bulletin. The four-week positivity rate continues to decline gradually and is now at 25.95%, reflecting the growing number of PCR tests carried out and the slight reduction in the disease’s spread. Local epidemiologists, nevertheless, alert that the spread of the virus comes and goes.

As per Bulletin #182, with the deadline of 16 September 2020, the Ministry of Public Health has registered 106,136 confirmed cases since the first case on 1 March 2020. PCR testing is 41,523 tests per one million inhabitants.

The number of deaths is 2,022, including two new deaths reported over the past 24 hours. The fatality rate is 1.91% over the past four weeks. The fatality rate per 1M inhabitants is 193.52, that compares to the global average of 120.

The Ministry of Public Health report indicates that 26% of the total available hospital beds for Covid-19 patients are occupied, and 40% of the intensive care units for Covid-19. Health Minister Plutarco Arias says that the emphasis is on detecting the cases early on, so fewer persons require hospitalization.

The 14-day average for PCR first diagnostic tests is 3,871. The numbers for the first diagnostic tests carried out over the past 14 days [the difference between the PCR tests reported since the past bulletin] are:

The official cumulative incidence of the disease per 100,000 inhabitants as per confirmed PCR tests is highest in the National District and these top 10 provinces: National District (2,777), Pedernales (1,348), Santiago (1,139), La Altagracia (1,047), Sánchez Ramírez (1,044), La Vega (951), Duarte (865), Barahona (842), La Romana (800), Maria Trinidad Sánchez (793), Azua (786) and Santo Domingo province with 749 is in 12th place in the incidence of the disease per 100,000 inhabitants.

As of Wednesday, 16 September 2020 at 6pm, the deadline for Bulletin #182, the most confirmed cases were of persons resident in National District (29,288) and the Santo Domingo province (22,031), for 48% of the 106,136 confirmed cases nationwide.

Other provinces with more than 500 confirmed cases are: Santiago (12,005), La Vega (3,944), San Cristobal (3,948), La Altagracia (3,744), Duarte (2,593), La Romana (2,199), Puerto Plata (2,040), Espaillat (1,802), San Juan de la Maguana (1,786), Azua (1,771), Barahona (1,612), Sánchez Ramírez (1,604), San Pedro de Macoris (1,528), Monseñor Nouel (1,249), Maria Trinidad Sanchez (1,144), Peravia (1,111) and Valverde (588). The National District, province of Santo Domingo and these 17 provinces of 32 make up more than 90% of the confirmed cases nationwide.

Testing continues inconsistent. The newest allocated cases reported for the 16 September update deadline are: National District (164), Santo Domingo (117), Santiago (84), San Cristobal (39), La Altagracia (34), Puerto Plata (20), Barahona (17), Azua (17), La Romana (16), Espaillat (16), Valverde (15) and San Juan de la Maguana (11).

Haiti reports 8,541 confirmed cases and 220 deaths, for the 16 September 2020 deadline.

In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is now ranked 11th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Canada, Bolivia and Ecuador.
