Biviana Riveiro, executive director of the Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), announced as of Tuesday, 6 October 2020, the center is to be known as Pro Dominicana. She says the new name seeks to better identify the activities carried out by the government agency. She said the government agency’s new action plan will give priority to the drive to help small and medium sized companies export.
Elizabeth Mena of the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo), also spoke during the re-launching of CEI-RD. To improve the business climate and attract investment, she said the country needs to be proactive. She spoke of the need to incorporate better technologies, open to innovation, raise the quality of its export products, eliminate market distortions, remove trade barriers and advance in international agreements that facilitate trade and allow global competition.
She said the private sector is willing to collaborate to amend the Labor Code to promote better jobs in the formal sector and incorporate new realities, such as teleworking. Labor Minister Luis Miguel de Camps has said his department will issue a resolution to legalize current work practices until the Labor Code is updated.
