The Dominican Football League (LDF) and the Professional Football League of Spain (LaLiga) signed a historic agreement on 6 October 2020 to back the sport’s development in the Dominican Republic. Manuel Estrella, president of the LDF and Nuño Pérez-Pla, director of the Spanish LaLiga office for Mexico and the Caribbean, signed. Spanish Ambassador Alejandro Abellán García de Diego was present. Rubén García, president of the Spanish Football Federation, and Deputy Sports Minister Franklin de la Mota also attended.
As per the agreement, the teams that are part of the LDF will benefit greatly from the Spanish football league’s logistical support.
“It is an honor to have the most important soccer league in the world as a partner. To work with the best is key to continue building the LDF from a solid foundation,” said Estrella. The president of the LDF said Dominican soccer has much to gain from the Spanish Football League’s experience.
The Dominican Soccer League (LDF) began in 2015. It was restructured in 2019 and now falls under the organization of the Dominican Soccer Federation. It has 10 clubs that together decide the type of format, the schedule, and the way to market the league.
Spanish soccer is present in 41 countries through 11 offices and 44 delegates, reaching 84 countries.
The 2020 Dominican Football League championship opens 9 October. It will run through 12 December. The health protocol allows for 15% in person attendance at the games.
