Procurement Agency applies law and bans city mayors from being state providers

The director of the Procurement Agency, Carlos Pimentel suspended the government procurement permits to 113 mayors and city councilors. He says these were in violation of Art. 14 of the Procurement Law 340-06. The law says that mayors and city councilors and their close relatives cannot be providers to the state.

Pimentel did not specify the names of those that have been suspended.

The announcement comes at a time when the Dominican people are holding the Abinader government to its campaign promise of rule by law, including that corruption in government is unacceptable. The disrespect for the procurement law has been the norm in past years.
