The Procurement Agency announced the annulling of a 25-year contract signed in 2015 by the governmental agency, Corphotels with Varma Business Group. Former Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas Maldonado is said to be the owner of the entity.
The government purchasing agency determined that the contract was illegal because it had irregular public-private concession clauses. The agency said the contract was creating a quasi-privatization of public property for private profit.
The 17,000m2 Teatro Agua y Luz has a system of dancing waters, including 355 water spouts. It has been closed for more than 10 years.
