Indotel: Only 27% of homes have Internet

In this day and age, the Dominican Republic has more cell phones than it has population. Yet, the executive director of the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel), Julissa Cruz Abreu says that only 27% of homes are connected to the Internet. Another 73% rely on mobile phones to connect. Claro has 57% market share and Altice 37.3%

The situation is of concern now that distance learning is the norm for the 2020-21 school year. Education at public schools is being offered through by online platforms, but also by TV and radio.
