Public Works Minister Deligne Ascención reported start of construction in January 2021 of the ring road that will connect Los Alcarrizos with the Santo Domingo ring road that originates near Haina Port and ends near Las Americas International Airport
Ascención explained that the Los Alcarrizos bypass will relieve traffic in that area. It will be about 8 kilometers long and 26 meters wide. The Ministry has allotted close to RD$2 billion for the construction.
Ascensión made the announcement when touring the places where the new road is to be built.
The road will benefit the neighborhoods located in the highly-populated Los Alcarrizos municipality. It will connect to Duarte Highway at Km 14.
Ascención says this is a project that has been in planning for more than 24 years.
The announced ring road will work as an alternative route to the Duarte highway, the only access to the municipality of Los Alcarrizos. The Los Alcarrizos ring road will begin at the southern part of the Blanco bridge and end at the entrance of Km 14 of the Duarte highway, with four lanes distributed in a north-south direction. It will have four exits to the old Duarte highway, to relieve more than 60% of the traffic in this congested municipality.
This road will facilitate the entry and exit in less time of raw materials and finished products from and to the industrial parks in Los Alcarrizos.
