Vladimir Dotel, the manager of the popular music group, Ilegales, has gone on record asking a question that is on everyone’s minds. Why are political crowd gathering events allowed, when artistic presentations are not. Dotel used his Instagram account to complain about the situation.
“It is incredible what is happening in our country. You know that the performing class was the first affected by all this pandemic stuff and it’s going to be the last one to be reactivated. We haven’t been able to get back on stage yet, but the most interesting thing I see is that we see political activities from all political parties with a lot of people and nothing happens,” he said.
Recently, photos and videos have circulated of large political events held by former President Leonel Fernández, as he organizes his new political party, the People’s Force (FP). The photos show very little physical distancing in the large gatherings.
The FP was an ally of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) for several candidacies into the 7 July 2020 presidential and congressional election. Fernández founded the party when he split from the then ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), alleging former President Danilo Medina had rigged the party primary held in October 2019.
