The Latin Music Tours became the first paid live performance in the Dominican Republic during the pandemic. It took place over two nights with a smaller audience than usual at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana. The hall can accommodate almost 4,000 people, yet it was set up for less than 800, keeping to the physical distancing rules and new health protocols. There were metal separators that limited the movement of people. Many complained they were asked to wear masks at all times.
Nevertheless, as reported in the media, people were happy to be there. Popular groups such as Niche, Toño Rosario, Don Miguelo and Yiyo Sarante, Alá Jazá, Don Miguelo and Banda Real kept the early winter Latin music tradition live. Reportedly, during the show, many took off their masks to sing along to the more popular songs.
All was well minus the surprise for many that alcohol would not be served, in keeping with enhanced health safety measures at the hotel. As reported, on the same day the musical show began, those who had booked received a letter in their rooms notifying them that alcoholic beverages would not be served. It would only be water and soft drinks at the floor of the show. The drinks that had been promised were sent to the guests rooms for their consumption in private, as reported in Listin Diario.
