As the Justice Department continues with anti-corruption investigations, the case of corruption at the National Institute for Comprehensive Care of Early Childhood (Inaipi) is again making headlines. The former director, Berlinesa Franco lashed out at the former director of the Procurement Agency (DGCP), Yokasta Guzman. Guzmán called a press conference to defend herself on Thursday, 3 December 2020.
Franco yesterday was at the Justice Department for questioning. She said that she did not resign from the position after journalist Alicia Ortega in April 2020 presented major irregularities in contracting on an investigative journalism TV show. Franco said she was asked to resign by then President Danilo Medina. Franco accuses Guzman of aiding her in how to violate the rules.
Guzman was summoned by the Justice Department to answer to questioning on Friday, 4 December. All throughout the Medina administrations, the media presented several irregularities in government contracting. Now, the Justice Department is investigating the complicities of government officials, starting with Operación Anti-Pulpo that looks into contracting with a brother of former President Danilo Medina.
