The National District Mayor’s Office dedicated a street in Villa Consuelo to the memory of brothers Pedro Aníbal and Gilberto Fuentes Berg. The men were two El Caribe newspaper photographs who were obliged to photograph tortured victims of the Trujillo regime at the Carcel de la 40 jail. The photos taken included one of a man as he is tortured in an electric chair. The brothers covertly managed to send the prints abroad to let the world know the Trujillo regime atrocities. For their daring, they were tortured and murdered. The brave actions of the brothers were unknown for many years.
The ceremony of the naming of the street coincided with Human Rights Day on 10 December 2020. The city government announced that Chilean photographers Orlando Barria and Erika Santelices are making a film on the tortures to Trujillo regime opponents.
