Chilly weather and rains, flights canceled due to snowstorm in NY

A big New England snowstorm is impacting travel to the Dominican Republic. The massive storm is moving from Georgia in the south to Maine in the north, affecting almost the entire east coast of the United States. The storm is unloading up to 2 feet of snow, with whiteout conditions through Friday.

Aerodom that manages the Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) reported the snowstorm has already caused cancelations of 10 flights to the Dominican Republic.

In the Dominican Republic, it seems as if the DR is also under the effects of the snowstorm. The weather bureau, nevertheless, explains the chilly temperatures and gray skies are because of an anticyclone in the area. Northeasterly winds are expected to produce isolated showers over the regions: northeast, southeast (including Greater Santo Domingo) and the Central Mountain Range. The northeasterly winds are creating the cool yet pleasant temperatures now felt all over the country.

The conditions will continue through Friday, 18 December 2020. Temperatures of 6ºC and 12ºC are expected in mountainous areas and in the coastal areas between 19ºC and 22ºC.
