Santo Domingo East Mayor Manuel Jiménez tells people living in the largest Santo Domingo municipality that garbage collection will continue below adequate standards. He says the city government he inherited has contractual commitments with several collection companies that still have to be rescinded, renegotiated or substituted.
It will take time, but first steps are being taken. Mayor Jimenez who began his government in April 2020, says that on 2 January 2021, a first new tender would be announced for new bids on refuse collection.
