Tony Peña Guaba, director of the Social Policy Cabinet (DGCP) of the Abinader administration is not resigning. Despite widespread acclaim that he leave the position after having violated the Procurement Law, he instead found a way around the breach in following procurement rules.
He is now canceling the contracts the 70 popular artists would have signed to receive allotments from the RD$100 million fund for future shows, Peña Guaba said the funds would now be registered in the accounting books as donations or “solidarity support”. Then the law would not be violated, he said.
The Procurement Agency had gone public saying that the contract futures signed with a list of popular artists violated Procurement Law 340-06.
On the list of beneficiaries are government employees and millionaire artists.
