Life insurance for forest rangers

Environment Minister Orlando Jorge Mera announced that 1,050 rangers have been affiliated to the BanReservas life insurance. In the past, many park rangers have lost their lives defending the country’s natural resources. These workers will also now have health insurance that extends to their family members.

Jorge Mera made the announcement at a ceremony where he recognized the sacrifice and life work of 30 rangers who have been employed at the 127 protected areas in the Dominican Republic and have already put in 18 years or more on the job. Jorge Mera donated his wage in December to make more cash available for awards to the honored rangers. One of those recognized is Gloria Maria Diaz Martínez, one of the very few women rangers.
