Dominican Medical Association on good terms with Abinader administration

The Abinader government and the Dominican Medical Association agreed to work together for the welfare of patients nationwide. Abinader accepted long time requests by the association that represents physicians on the government payroll. Dr. Waldo Ariel Suero signed for the (CMD) at the Presidential Palace on Monday, 21 December 2020.

In first place on the list of agreed points is that a representative of the CMD will sit on the Health Cabinet of the Abinader administration. Vice President Raquel Peña heads the Health Cabinet.

Automatic retirement of 50 years old from 24-hour emergency services is agreed to. 65 years is the obligatory retirement age. Medics can request early retirement at 60 years, but these need to have put in a minimum of 20 years in service. The CMD negotiated that medics will receive throughout their retirement the full wage and benefits package they had received when on the job. The government agrees to a minimum RD$50,000 pension for physicians.

The government also agreed to a 30% increase in the wages of physicians employed by the Ministry of Public Health, the National Health Service, autonomous government hospitals, the National Council of Aging, and the 911 Emergency System as of 1 June 2021.
