
The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), under new authorities since August 2020, continues to report successes in drug interdiction nationwide. The number of drug confiscations is night-to-day from the previous government.
The DNCD reported on 22 December 2020, recovering 156 packages of cocaine from Caribbean Sea waters. The drugs were recovered in a joint operation with the Dominican Navy, the Air Force, intelligence agencies under the Justice Department, some five nautical miles from Barahona.
Air and sea units pursued a speedboat suspect of drug trafficking when it entered coastal waters near La Cienega, Barahona. The crew of the boat threw the cargo to sea. The National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) confirms the seized packages contained 162.45 kilograms of cocaine.
The DNCD reports the traffickers had arrived from South America. The men managed to escape. The authorities continue on their trail.
