The Dominican Republic authorized three special humanitarian flights from the United Kingdom. The announcement comes after the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) banned flights from the UK due to the fast-spreading mutant strain of Covid-19 affecting that country.
Public Health Minister Plutarco Arias says that all arrivals on those flights will have to remain in quarantine for 10 days. In the first of the three humanitarian flights, 34 Dominicans returned and all tested negative to PCR tests. The Dominicans were taken to the Customs Agency residence for a seven-day quarantine. British tourists are being sent back on rescheduled humanitarian flights. As reported, UK tourists were not boarded in the UK after the order for quarantine was known.
Random testing is routinely carried out at Dominican airports for all arrivals.
