Aguilas Cibaeñas fly on Saturday to Mexico for Caribbean Series

A chartered plane with capacity for 200 passengers is taking the 58-strong Aguilas Cibaeñas delegation, the press, technical staff, and others to Mazatlan, Mexico. The Aguilas are representing the Dominican Republic in the 63rd Caribbean Series. The Series opens on 31 January and ends on 6 February.

The Aguilas Cibaeñas will compete against teams from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela. Colombia and Panama are participating as guests.

The team leaves on Saturday from the team’s home city, Santiago’s Cibao International Airport.

Prior to leaving, the team visited with President Luis Abinader on Wednesday, 27 January 2021 at the Presidential Palace to receive the Dominican flag. President Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña wore the Dominican team shirts during the event. The President wished the team the best and told the players he had reserved meeting with them at the Presidential Palace for 7 February to celebrate the win.

At the last minute, Robinson Canó joined the Dominican team traveling to Mexico. He played for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Championship, making his mark by motivating players to win the championship on the strength of “platano power.”
