Government agency Inespre to provide cheap chicken for the masses

Inespre, the Institute for Price Stabilization, will move into the poultry market to sell inexpensive poultry to the people. Currently operating in West Santo Domingo and the National District, the agency has plans to market food at low prices at all branches nationwide. Along with the poultry, the agency is offering vegetables at far below supermarket per pound prices: rice and potatoes at RD$18; onions at RD$25; beans at RD$45; sugar at RD$20 and something like processed ham at RD$450.

Iván Hernández Guzmán, the son of the Dominican ambassador in Washington and grandson of former President Antonio Guzmán, heads Inespre. He told reporters that the government is going to spread this program out to all the country.

He added that the many warehouses that Inespre has all over the country will be turned into small markets for the sale of poultry and other farm products at the best possible prices. At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture is investing well over RD$200 million to increase the production of potatoes and carrots in the Central Valley of San Juan de la Maguana.
