National Youth Awards winners announced

President Luis Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña received the 2020 National Youth Award winners at the Presidential Palace on Sunday, 31 January 2021, National Youth Day. In delivering the award, President Abinader said it recognizes outstanding efforts of young people in health care during the year of the pandemic. It also is a tribute to outstanding social services and the defense of human rights. Contributions to Dominican culture, sports, politics, business and religious leadership and the environment are honored.

“As we can see, the purpose of this award, in addition to recognizing these young Dominicans, is to give recognition to the exemplary work developed by the hard-working personnel that sustains the national health sector,” said President Abinader when delivering the awards to 14 young people.

The winners were:
Contribution to Human Rights: Yanet Reynoso Sports: Bernardo Pie
Cultural Development: Álvaro Luis
Business Development: Víctor Rojas
Political Leadership: Indira Morillo
Religious Leadership: Willian Encarnación,
Preservation and Promotion of Natural Resources: Ebell Cuevas
Voluntary Social Services: Aníbal GermosoSpecial mentions were won by Tracy Emanuel, for Pulmonary Pathology Assistance; Carlos Chalas, for Nursing Care Assistance and Management; Nicole Féliz, for Clinical Attention/Diagnosis; Rinaldy Capellán, for Epidemiological Control and Rosa Báez, for Effort in Bioanalytical Detection.

Joel Ventura received special recognition in consideration of his story of personal improvement. This young man worked at the Rafey landfill, Santiago de los Caballeros, where he was rescued and enrolled at the Cometas de Esperanza Educational Center. He later enrolled at the university and graduated with a degree in Education, with Summa Cum Laude honors.

The winners received a RD$100,000 cash award and a laptop. The special mentions received RD$100,000 in cash.
