
The Aguilas Cibaeñas qualified for the Caribbean Series playoffs by defeating Venezuela on 3 February 2021. The Caribbean Series is taking place in Mazatlan, Mexico.
On 3 February, the Dominican team defeated Venezuela’s Caribes de Anzoátegui 2-0. Andy Otero pitched for a first five innings without hits. Infielder Robel García delivered the two-base double that decided the game in the seventh inning.
The Dominican team has won its first four games playing against Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama and Venezuela. It plays Colombia’s Caimanes de Barranquilla tonight at 6:30pm, Dominican time.
The DR is the defending champion in the regional baseball tournament. Toros del Este won the tournament for the Dominican Republic in 2020. The Aguilas have won the Caribbean Series playing for the Dominican Republic on five occasions. The last time was in 2007.
