Half of workers in DR earn less than RD$15,000

Diario Libre reports that of the total of 2,039,902 workers registered in the Social Security Treasury (TSS) as of 31 December 2020, some 712,669 make between RD$10,001 and RD$15,000, for 34.94%. Yet another 314,832 or 15.43% make wages under RD$10,000. Those in the salary range of RD$15,001 and RD$20,000 amount to 343,329, for 16.83 % of the total number of workers in the public and private sectors. Only 524,446 workers earn wages of more than RD$25,000, or 25.71%.

As of December 2020, the cost of the family basket in the Dominican Republic ranged from around RD$14,000 for the most poor to RD$25,000, according to data published by the Central Bank.

As of December 2020, a total of 2,039,902 workers were contributing to the TSS, registering 204,204 workers less than in December 2019.

According to the Single Information and Collection System (SUIR) of the Social Security Treasury (TSS), of the 2,039,902 workers were contributing to the TSS in December 2020, 1,407,758 workers belong to the private sector, 307,902 to the centralized public sector and 324,242 to the decentralized public sector.

TSS Bulletin updated on January 11, 2020, details that the number of active employers in the Social Security, registered in the Single Information and Collection System (SUIR) of the Social Security Treasury (TSS), database as of 31 December 2020, are 89,988. This is 1,185 employers less when compared to the same period of the previous year, or a 1.30% reduction.

The Social Security Treasury reports that 95.52% of registered businesses have between 1 and 50 workers registered. The number of registered employers in the range of 1-15 workers increased by 581 compared to 2019.
