Protests in Haiti calling for the resignation of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse did not keep many people from attending the bi-national markets that were held on Friday, 5 February 2021 in Pedernales and Dajabon. In Dajabon, the market day was normal, only marred by the absence of merchants from nearby Cap Haitian. However, the people from nearby Ouanaminthe (Juana Mendez) were in full attendance and the merchants from the Dominican side of the border.
Down in the Southwest, in Pedernales, the market day went off without a hitch, even though Ainse-au-Pitre is just 48 kilometers from the capital of Port-au-Prince. Regular units of the army, air force and the Specialized Corps for Border Security were in plain sight and kept order in both areas.
