
President Luis Abinader received the credentials of the ambassadors of Canada, South Korea and Russia on 1 March 2021. The ceremony took place at the Ambassadors’ Hall of the Presidential Palace. The ambassadors also met with Vice President Raquel Peña and Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez.
Ambassador Lee Inho was ambassador to El Salvador prior to his being sent to the Dominican Republic. In El Salvador he was decorated with the medal of diplomatic merit. Inho has held the position of director general of Foreign and National Security Policies at the Government Policy Coordination Office in South Korea.
Christine Laberge is now officially the representative of Canada. Before her appointment to the Dominican Republic, she was director of the Centre of Learning for International Affairs and Global Leadership (2018 to 2020) of the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. At the same government entity, she also served as deputy director in divisions responsible for Investments Attraction (2015 to 2020), and Science, Technology and Innovation (2005 to 2009). She has held various positions abroad, including consul and head of mission at the Canadian Consulate in Barcelona (2011 to 2015), Science and Technology Councillor at the Embassy of Canada in The Hague (2007) and Vice-Consul at the Consulate General of Canada in Rio de Janeiro (2001 to 2004). She speaks French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan. She is a graduate in Political Science at the Université de Montreal with a masters in management from HEC Montreal.
Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov is a graduate in foreign affairs who began his diplomatic career in 1996. He also serves as Russian ambassador to Venezuela and Haiti. He is a graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in 1994. He is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. He began his diplomatic career in 1996. He held various positions in the Foreign Ministry and abroad. From 2012 to 2017 he served as minister-counsellor at the Embassy of Russia in Spain. From 2017 to February 2020 he served as deputy director of the Latin American Department of the Russian MFA.
