
The former governor of the Central Bank, Frank Guerrero Prats, died on Thursday, 11 March 2021 of Covid-19. He had been admitted to the Hospiten Hospital on 25 December 2020 and while he tested negative for Covid-19, the virus damaged his lungs and he never fully recovered. He was governor of the Central Bank from 2000 to 2003, under the Presidency of Hipólito Mejía. He was the eldest son of the late teacher and political leader, Ivelisse Prats, who died in October 2020.
