New theme park to include an AirPark

Dominican aviation authorities visited the proposed site of a new theme park to be located north of the Punta Cana beach area, in La Altagracia province. The airport-recreational center will feature the first “Air Park” in the Caribbean. It will have a 1,200 meter long by 23-meter wide runway. This is a small airport with complete facilities, designed to attract private aircraft owners and increase air tourism. The park feature “zero bureaucracy” according to Victor Pichardo, of the Airport Department.

As a first, the domestic airport will offer “hangar homes” for persons who want to live there. The new facility seeks to encourage small plane travel in the country.

The head of the Airport Authority, the director of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute and high ranking Air Force, and Police figures joined in the presentation on the site.

The Air Park, is to be built in Lagunas de Nisibon and will be the first phase of the La Cortina Theme Park, undertaken by the Viamar Group, the Ford vehicle concessionaire in the Dominican Republic. A first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by the last quarter of 2022.

Other phases of the La Cortina Theme Park include an Adventure Park with 13 different recreational activities, hotels and real estate developments. There are 6.7 kilometers of riverfront in the property.

The project also encompasses the installation of the country’s first private parachuting school.
