50,000 Dominicans migrated in 2020


Statistics from the United Nations’ Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) reveals that 31 is the average age for Dominicans to migrate. A report in Diario Libre reveals that from 2019 to 2020, around 50,000 Dominicans migrated. Most have moved to the United Statesand to Europe (Spain).

Data from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs records that between mid-2000 and 2020, 1,608,567 Dominican citizens had migrated abroad. This is 49,857 more than the number of migrants registered as of 2019, when the total number was 1,558,710.

The data reveals that 15% of the population lives abroad, taking into consideration the total Dominican population is at 10,739,000. UN DESA estimates that 603,794 foreigners live in the Dominican Republic.
