Preventive custody for 21 accused in Bayahibe Network drug trafficking case

La Altagracia province judge Francis Reyes ordered former La Romana city councilor Angel Zorrilla Constanzo and Faustino Avila Guzman (Negro Tolongo), a former president of the La Romana City Council to serve preventive custody. They are accused of trafficking drugs to Puerto Rico. The case was declared complex, meaning that prosecutors are given more time to prepare the accusations.

The judge ordered a year of preventive custody to Zorrilla Constanzo and Avila Guzmán. Former Navy man Juan Gabriel Ramirez Cedano, Victor Manuel Rijo, Juan Domingo Matos and Isael Cedeño Calletano, among others were sent to jail with the same preventive custody sentence.

The case exposes that Zorrilla Constanzo received the shipments of drugs from South America and transported these on speed boats among the coasts of La Altagracia, La Romana to Puerto Rico. The incriminated are named as members of the so-called Bayahibe Network.
