Starbucks has installed itself in the capital city since 2019. It now has a store at the Downtown Center shopping center in Bella Vista (Rómulo Betancourt + Núñez de Cáceres intersection) serving the western part of the capital city and another at the Acropolis mall and another at Acrópolis mall at Av. Winston Churchill.
Ricardo Rico, vice president for Starbucks for Latin America and the Caribbean, told El Dinero that the company is betting on attracting local consumers. He said they are making inroads and expect to compete with the market leader, Café Santo Domingo. “I am sure that Starbucks will continue to grow in the Dominican Republic, opening next in Punta Cana, Las Terrenas and Puerto Plata because that is the way it has worked around the world and that is the way it will work in the Dominican Republic,” he told El Dinero.
Luis Gómez Burns is the general manager for the Dominican Republic.
