The Senate’s Permanent Hacienda Committee heard reports from the Ministry of Hacienda and the Tax Agency on a legislative initiative to return VAT (known here as ITBIS) to tourists for purchases of more than US$100 in the country. The legislation provides sanctions for those attempting to circumvent the law. Modern Revolutionary Party senator Faride Raful chairs the Permanent Hacienda Committee.
