The US donates three mobile hospitals

Visiting the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, 20 April 2021, Admiral Craig Faller, the commander of the US Southcom, delivered a donation of three mobile hospitals and two medical operation centers to the Dominican Republic. The US$5.1 million donation was received by Vice President Raquel Peña, who heads the Health Cabinet. Defense Minister Carlos Díaz Morfa also received the donation.

The US Southcom donation is intended to increase the Dominican government’s capacity to deploy personnel, medical equipment, and emergency assistance during operations in response to disasters or health crises.

US Admiral Craig Faller said that as soon as the Covid-19 crisis began, “we have worked very closely with the Dominican Emergency Operations Center and the Ministry of Health to assist them in their pandemic response plan.”

Vice President Raquel Peña stated that “through the US Southern Command, the US government is once again extending its helping hand to preserve the well-being of the Dominican people.”

The US Embassy says the US government has assisted with US$12 million to the Dominican Republic in response to the Covid-19 crisis.
