Responding to Admiral Craig Faller, China tells the US to check problems in their own democracy

The Embassy of China sent a written statement to the Listin Diario to respond to statements made by visiting US Admiral Craig Faller, commander of the US Southcom, in an interview with Listin Diario. In the document, China says that there is democracy in China, but it is one in the Chinese way.

During the interview, Admiral Faller had stated:
“I testified recently before the US Congress that China is not a democracy, it does not respect human rights, it does not follow the rule of law and when they have this technology, there is no division between something civilian or military, so we have to discuss with our eyes open to see what those impacts are going to be.”

In response, the Chinese Embassy pointed out that racial discrimination and violent law enforcement prevails in the United States and that it is up to them to reflect on their own problems of democracy, human rights and justice, instead of sticking their noses into other countries’ issues.

The official document from the Embassy to the Listin Diario stated: “Democracy itself has no fixed model. The United States has a U.S.-style democracy and China has its own style of democracy. Socialist democracy with Chinese peculiarities is a popular and consultative democracy, the core of which is that the people are the masters of the country. All countries have the right to choose different development paths according to their own national realities.”

Admiral Faller was in the Dominican Republic to participate in the Regional Caribbean Security Conference. During the conference, Minister of Defense of the Dominican Republic Carlos Díaz Morfa emphasized the importance of shared information to combat transnational crime in the region. “Without shared information, it is as if we were blind. Unity is strength; we propose respect and that we can jointly assume the protocols and guidelines that are necessary. In the end, the important thing is the will to solve any problem,” said Major General Díaz Morfa.

Representatives from France, Belize, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Caricom came for the meeting. Online participants in the conference were from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, Netherlands, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos Islands.
