One-CPR-test-per-year decree is suspended at least for 90 days

The Dominican Social Security Council (CNSS) has ordered the Superintendent for Health and Labor Risks (Sisalril) to suspend the resolution that established a policy of just one CPR test per person per year for persons affiliated to ARS health plans.

The decision is taken after the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) filed an appeal of Resolution 00237-2021. This legal move automatically suspends the resolution for 90 days. Yet, if the CNSS takes no decision, the appeal is considered to be denied.

Dr. Waldo Suero, the head of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) says that it is totally unfair to oblige that people pay RD$1,750 for an antigen test as a perquisite to be able to access the single free PCR test through insurance plans.

When the Ministry of Public Health announced the single PCR test requirement, free testing continued to be available at select stations in the public health system. The Ministry of Public Health argued that the private labs were still charging the same premium of the days when the test was scarce. The health insurance companies never included the test in their coverage. Instead, they have billed the government for the tests.
