President Abinader asks Quico Tabar to put the Lottery in order

After the scandal of possible fraud in the raffle draw at the National Lottery, President Luis Abinader named Teófilo (Quico) Tabar to head the institution (Decree 334-21). Tabar is appointed for 60 days and replaces Luis Maisichell Dicent. Tabar was for 10 years director-general of Customs Agency during a Joaquin Balaguer administration. He has held other important positions in public administration, including interim director of the State Sugar Council during the Antonio Guman administration (1978-1982) and director of the National Price Stabilization Institute (1985) during the Salvador Jorge Blanco government. He also served as director of the Tax Agency (DGII). Tabar is appointed on an interim and provisional basis, in an honorary capacity.

The decision comes when the Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating several persons for an alleged fraud after a video with suspect actions showing suspect actions during the draw of 1 May 2021.

Social media recently shared another video with suspect actions during a draw.
