Prosecutors seize property and evidence of corruption in phase II of Operation Coral

Public Prosecutor’s Office conducted 18 more raids in what is described as a second phase of the Operation Coral, an investigation into military-police and religious corruption ring.

Prosecutor Wilson Camacho said that the prosecution will seize all assets of those involved in the administrative corruption scheme.

Deputy Prosecutor Wilson Camacho, head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), said that the raids were simultaneously carried out in the National District, La Vega, Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris), Monte Plata and Santo Domingo province.

He said that prosecutors raided several farms, houses, apartments, and businesses investigated for being illicitly acquired.

In the Coral Case, Major General Adán Cáceres Silvestre, the security chief of former President Danilo Medina is under arrest. He is the former director of the Presidential Security Corps (Cusep). He was sent to the Najayo Jail for pre-trial detention for 18 months. Others arrested in the case are evangelical pastor Rossy Guzmán Sánchez (La Pastora), her son police corporal Tanner Antonio Flete Guzmán; police colonel Rafael Núñez de Aza, and Navy sergeant Alejandro José Montero Cruz. Raúl Alejandro Girón Jiménez is under house arrest for security reasons after cooperating with the investigation of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The accused are being held in the correction and rehabilitation centers of Najayo Men and Women, in San Cristobal, while the Public Prosecutor’s Office continues investigating the case.

The group is accused of committing criminal association, fraud against the Dominican state, coalition of officials, forgery of public documents, laundering of assets derived from acts of corruption and illegal possession and illegal carrying of firearms.
