Journalist Huchi Lora has offered more details of the plot against the prosecutor, deputy attorney general Yeni Berenice Reynoso. Reynoso is investigating several cases that involve high-ranking officials in the past Danilo Medina administration, including military and police.
Lora said that he has information that Colonel Pedro Julio (Pepe) Goico Guerrero, former head of past President Hipólito Mejía’s security, would be involved in the case. Hipólito Mejía is a high-ranking member of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
Speaking on his El Dia TV morning program, Lora said that the plot was discovered when two men were found to be trailing a colonel who works for the public prosecutor’s office in the investigation of the Coral Operation case in which several military and police are involved in alleged administrative corruption. The men turned out to be members of the Air Force. A search of their mobiles showed photos of the home of the colonel they were trailing, of prosecutor Reynoso’s home, her vehicle and conversations that gave details of the routes traveled by Reynoso and the license plates of her vehicles.
Lora said that when the men were asked about their motives, they alleged that they were following Reynoso because they were going to reinforce her security, something she had not requested.
Lora says the incident occurred shortly after the cables were cut at the Las Americas International Airport runway.
