Man who caused false alarm at Cibao Airport arrested

Jorge Rafael Hernández turned himself in to the Ministry of Defense on 2 June 2021. Since Friday, state security agencies sought him after he was identified as the person who made warning calls to the Cibao International Airport in Santiago about a woman boarding a plane. The calls activated the security protocols of the airport, affecting the operations of that air terminal.

The National Investigation Agency (DNI) quickly located the probable author and origin of the call and ordered his arrest, says a report from the Presidency of the Republic on Tuesday, 1 June 2021.

Hernández admitted to making the calls alerting that a woman intended to travel to New York carrying explosives. He was upset his girlfriend was leaving for the United States. He did not think of the consequences of the call. His girlfriend had told him she would travel to the US because she was upset he had traveled to Puerto Plata without her.

Due to the false alarm, which occurred on Friday, 28 May after 5pm., the departure of four flights was delayed.
