
Team USA swept all teams during the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier that took place last week in Florida ball parks. The Dominican Republic placed second and Venezuela placed third, winning another chance at qualifying for the baseball event in the Tokyo Olympics. The final qualifier will take place starting 22-26 June 2021 in Puebla, Mexico. The world No 8 Venezuela and No. 10 Dominican Republic will now face No 6 Australia and No. 9 Netherlands in Mexico for the final slot. The winner will then join No. 1 Japan, No. 2 United States, No. 3 Korea, No. 5 Mexico and No. 18 Israel for the Tokyo Olympics.
To qualify, the Dominican Republic final scores in the Florida qualifier were:
Win over Puerto Rico 5-2
Loss to the United States 6-8
Win over Nicaragua 13-3
Win over Venezuela 14-4
Win over Canada 6-5.
