US travelers can now fly directly into Samana via CLT

Samana, the lush tropical northeastern beach destination, now has a direct air link with the United States via Charlotte, North Carolina. American Airlines inaugurated the route on Saturday, 5 June 2021. The flights will operate twice on Wednesdays and Saturdays between Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and El Catey International Airport (AZS) in Samaná.

The flights depart CLT on Wednesdays at 9:25am and arrive to Samana at 12:58pm. Departure from Samana is at 1:40pm with a 5:19pm arrival in Charlotte. An Embraer 175 with capacity for 88 people is used for the flight.

Charlotte Douglas International is the only hub where American Airlines has grown capacity in 2021. “CLT domestic seat capacity for summer 2021 will grow 1% versus summer 2019, the only hub in the AA network with (year over year) domestic growth,” said AA airline spokesman Andrew Trull, as reported in Forbes.

“We are extremely excited about the opening of our fifth destination in the country, Samaná,” Oliver Bojos, American Airlines general manager said during the inauguration of the flight at El Catey International. He highlighted Samaná becomes the fifth airport served by American in the country. “We are strengthening our commitment of more than 45 years with the country,” said Bojos.

American currently offers more than 130 weekly flights from the country, connecting Santo Domingo (SDQ), Punta Cana (PUJ), Santiago (STI), Puerto Plata (POP) and Samaná (AZS) with the airports of Charlotte (CLT), Chicago (ORD), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Miami (MIA) and Philadelphia (PHL).

Samaná is one of the most Covid-19-free places in the Dominican Republic, with only 943 confirmed cases and eight deaths since the first case of Covid-19 was recorded on 1 March 2020.
