Rains damage 25 municipal waterworks

The recent, and ongoing, rains have taken around 25 municipal water systems out of service. According to the Center for Emergency Operations (COE), nearly 300,000 persons were left without potable water. Several provinces were under a Yellow Alert with landslides reported and flooding rivers and streams reported. Provinces such as Monte Plata, Greater Santo Domingo, La Vega, Monsignor Nouel, and San Jose de Ocoa were under the alert.

However, there were plenty of other areas under a Green Alert, such the Lower Yuna Basin, Santiago, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macoris, San Juan de la Maguana, Sánchez Ramirez (Cotuí) and even Elías Piña out on the Haitian border. Heavy rains were reported for Samana province in the northeast.

As the country enters the first months of the hurricane season, everyone is advised to watch for the COE warnings and follow weather reports.
